What is Six Sigma?
What is Six Sigma?
Six Sigma is a set of skills that combines multiple disciplines to ensure a remarkable quality improvement in the process design
In brief it can be described as “Scientific and systematic quality and process improvement projects”
· Scientific: The six uses a unique combination of several disciplines, e.g. Statistics, management, project management, design of experiment, process charting and leadership principles.
· Systematic: Six sigma is an incremental implementation of the quality improving projects into the different areas of the organization. By the end of this process everybody should be acquainted to the quality concepts
· Quality and process improvement: The average result of Six Sigma projects is the unbelievable 70% improvement of the process quality, measured in Dollars.
· Projects: Six Sigma is usually implemented in projects that take one department after the other. A project’s duration varies between 2-6 months.
Although Six Sigma was originally introduced in an industrial field, it is also implemented for transactional services as well, with great results. It is therefore recommended for all branches and departments, wherever recurring processes are used, e.g. a production process, billing process, marketing process, etc.
There are different levels of Six Sigma experts; Yellow Belt (basic level), Green Belt, and Black Belt (highest level). I have the privilege of being a Black Belt.
